Two beloved boys were growing up in Nanda's home. Yashoda cared for little Krishna. Rohini lovingly cared for Balarama. The family delighted in their childish movements. One day the sage Garga arrived in Vraja. He was known for his knowledge and serenity. He came to visit Nanda's family. Nanda saw him and rose to welcome him. He respectfully offered him a seat. The house filled with joy at his arrival.
Nanda expressed gratitude to his guest. He knew that the sage understood sacred rites. He wished his family to receive the blessing. Garga kindly listened to his words. A confidential conversation began between them. Nanda wanted a ceremony for the two boys. Yashoda and Rohini held their sons close. The sage looked tenderly toward the children. Nanda made his request with folded hands. He asked Garga to give them names.
Garga considered the circumstances of his visit. He was known as a priest of the Yadus. A public ceremony could arouse Kamsa's suspicion. The sage wanted the family to be careful. Nanda understood his concern. He asked that the ceremony be held unnoticed. They found a place for it in the cowshed. There their closest relatives could gather quietly. Garga agreed to speak the blessings. The modest gathering was filled with respect.
Yashoda and Rohini brought the two children. Each boy rested in His mother's arms. One had a dark complexion and the other a fair one. Garga looked at them with special attention. Nanda sat close to the family. Flowers and articles for the ceremony were ready. The sage spoke auspicious words. He wished the boys to bring joy to their loved ones. The mothers quietly listened to his prayers. Then came the moment to give the names.
Garga first spoke about the elder boy. He said that He would delight His relatives. Therefore He would also be known as Rama. Because of His strength He would bear the name Bala. Thus the family also knew Him as Balarama. The sage mentioned the name Sankarshana too. With it he spoke of His bond with the families. Rohini looked lovingly at her son. Nanda listened to every word. The names carried blessing and hope.
Then the sage looked toward the younger boy. He spoke of His dark complexion. He said that in this birth He would be called Krishna. He mentioned that He had other names as well. They were connected with His qualities and deeds. The sage did not try to count them all. Nanda listened to every sentence with joy. Yashoda held the child in her arms. The name Krishna sounded in the quiet place. For the family it became another precious gift.
Garga spoke to Nanda about the future. He said the boy would bring joy to the residents. Those close to Him would find protection beside Him. But the words did not lessen parental care. Nanda still wanted to look after his son well. The sage reassured him with auspicious words. Everyone received his prayers with gratitude. Yashoda and Rohini looked at the boys. They were already loved throughout the household. Now they also had the names by which to call them.
After the ceremony Nanda thanked the sage. Garga received the family's respectful welcome. The quiet celebration needed no great procession. Its joy gathered around the two children. The mothers held them close to their hearts. Nanda respectfully saw his guest off. His blessings remained with the family. Tender voices were heard at home once more. Krishna and Balarama were called by their names. Every call was filled with love.
As they grew, the boys moved about more and more. Their loved ones rejoiced at each new step. Sometimes together they explored with curiosity. Their mothers watched and helped them. Krishna found joy in His brother's company. Balarama stayed close to Him in play. The house rang with their childish voices. The names Garga had spoken were heard each day. Friends and relatives used them tenderly. Thus the blessing entered ordinary days.
In Gopala-campu this moment belongs to Vraja's childhood. The family received the sage as a beloved guest. He gave the names in a quiet, confidential meeting. Each name recalled joy and closeness. Nanda held hope for the children's wellbeing. Yashoda and Rohini continued their motherly care. The boys grew surrounded by family. Their games would bring Vraja more happiness. Garga's words remained in their memory. The names continued to be spoken with love.
