Shaibya came to Krishna as Chandravali's companion. She had left her friend at an appointed place. She placed on Krishna's chest a gunja necklace sent by Chandravali. There she saw Vrinda and Tulasi talking before Him. Tulasi's presence made her think that Radha had also arrived. This troubled her, but she concealed her purpose in coming. She said her friend was holding a festival to complete a vow to Durga. According to her account, she had been sent to invite Radha.

Shaibya said she had looked for Radha both at home and in the forest. She asked Tulasi where her friend could be found. Tulasi understood the indirect purpose of the question. She answered with a stratagem of her own. She said Shyamala had already invited Radha and taken Her to a festival for Ambika. She added that Lalita had sent her to fetch Vrinda for flowers, fruit, and garlands. Tulasi then left with Vrinda and Dhanishtha. Before Shaibya, she acted as though she were indifferent to Krishna.

Shaibya wished to speak to Tulasi again. Krishna restrained her with a glance. He let the attendant leave and asked about Chandravali's welfare. He wanted to know where she was and what she was doing. Shaibya was delighted by these questions. She said Chandravali's mother-in-law had kept her at home. Nevertheless, she had managed to bring her out on the pretext of worshipping Durga. She had left her with Padma near Sakhi-sthali and gone to find Krishna.

Krishna concealed His intention beneath a considered answer. He asked Shaibya to take Chandravali to Gauri-tirtha. He said He would first leave His friends in charge of the herd. Madhumangala urged Him to fulfil the message brought through Dhanishtha. Krishna then invoked a supposed warning from His father. He spoke of a messenger from Vasudeva and cattle thieves sent by Kamsa. He asked Shaibya not to be anxious if such an obstacle delayed Him. This was part of His evasive reply, not an account of an attack taking place.

Krishna assured her that He would come quickly. Then He went with His friends in the direction of the cows. The happy Shaibya returned to Chandravali.
