Krishna sat on a jeweled seat beside His bed. Yashoda came to Him accompanied by two or three maidservants. With motherly love, she brought rice cooked in milk. She asked Him to eat before going to sleep. The night was long, and she did not want her son to feel hungry later.

Krishna told her that He did not feel even a little hunger. Yet eating at her request would bring Him joy. He asked her to go, but she did not immediately accept that request. Yashoda insisted that He eat before her. She sat down, and He ate what she had brought for her happiness.

Krishna rinsed His mouth and received tambula. Yashoda embraced Him lovingly and then returned to her chamber. He settled upon the large, soft bed. Its fresh bedding was compared to foam upon the churned ocean of milk. He rested His left arm upon a large, soft cushion.

Moonbeams entered through the openings of the latticed window. There were sleepy female parrots in the chamber. They mistook the bright bands for jeweled rods on which they could perch. Repeatedly they tried to grasp them. Instead of remaining upon them, they fell from the imagined support.

The little incident made the young attendants laugh. Krishna too watched the parrots' mistake. Although composed, He could not hold back His laughter. After that cheerful scene, He again received tambula from His dear servants. Then He lay down to rest.

The attendants continued their different services around Him. One scattered fine fragrant powder. Another wafted smoke from aguru incense. A servant fanned with a white chamara, compared to moonlight. Another lovingly massaged His feet.

As Krishna rested, the male and female attendants lay down around Him. Sleep gradually took a stronger hold of them. In Him, however, it became lighter. The poet connects this with the pastimes to come. The scene closes with the rest that follows motherly care and shared laughter.
