Yashoda entered with Rohini, Paurnamasi and Gargi. Evening was near, yet Krishna had not returned. She asked Rohini why her son was late. Her eyes searched the path taken by the cows. The latter part of the long day passed in waiting.
Kundalata tried to ease her worry with cheerful words. Yet a mother's concern was not so easily dispelled. Then Krishna entered and spoke to her. He asked her to wipe her tear-filled eyes. He was standing right before her.
Rohini saw their reunion. She told Krishna that His mother had long watched the path. She asked Him to revive her with an embrace. The poet compares that comfort to rekindling a quiet flame. Her evening of waiting had its answer in His presence.
Krishna laid His head in Yashoda's lap. Then, in a childlike gesture, He asked for a jeweled ornament. The stage direction preserves this tender shift. The tears of waiting give way to the closeness of mother and son. Yashoda has Krishna beside her again.
